Ford Ranger has long been one of the hardest working pickups in the business. Now available with an even longer list of ingenious technologies, it’s also one of the smartest.
Cruise control that can adapt automatically
With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow your vehicle to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed.
Forward Alert, always looking ahead
This system can alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front and may help avoid an accident. Radar in the front of the Ranger detects slower vehicles traveling in the same direction, and provides a visual and audible warning if they’re rapidly approaching. If you don’t react and continue to get closer to the other vehicle, Ranger will pre-charge and increase brake assist sensitivity, so even if the brakes are pressed lightly, they’ll automatically apply a harder force to stop you quickly.
Selectable 4x4 for any terrain
Choose 4x2 for regular driving, 4x4 High Range for poor road surfaces and dirt tracks and 4x4 Low Range for exceptionally challenging terrain. Using Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly you can also switch between 4x2 and 4x4 High Range, whilst on the move.
An advanced system to help you stay in lane
If it detects that you’re accidentally drifting out of lane, Lane-Keeping Alert can alert you by vibrating the steering wheel and displaying a visual warning.
Extra control going downhill
Hill Descent Control is designed to regulate your downhill speed in off-road conditions without you even having to touch the brake or the accelerator pedals and it operates in both forward and reverse gears.
Extra control during hill starts
Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.
Control features that adapt to your load
Load Adaptive Control adjusts the Electronic Stability Control according to the overall weight your Ranger is carrying. This ensures control and stability whether empty or fully loaded.
Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance
An important and potentially life-saving part of Ford SYNC is Emergency Assistance*. In the unlikely event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, the technology can use a Bluetooth®-paired and connected mobile phone to automatically make a direct call to the Emergency Services for you. You can choose to stop the call, or talk to those services if you need to. Crucially, the system will supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unconscious.
Comfort and Conveniece
From systems that can help you park and reverse more easily, to features that keep you informed, help you reach your destination and keep you warm…
In the Ranger, every remarkable technology has a real-world purpose.
Go hands-free with SYNC 3
SYNC 3 is our most advanced version to date. It’s faster and easier to use, with enhanced voice commands and even more functionality. The new interface has larger buttons for improved usability, and the colour Touchscreen now features pinch-and-swipe gestures found on smartphones and tablets for even more intuitive navigation. SYNC 3 also features AppLink, Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto, to display your smartphone’s information on the touchscreen.
Easier, safer reversing
Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows what’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.
Sensors that take the stress out of parking
Parking distance sensors help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles around you. When the sensors detect an object, they activate an audible warning that intensifies the closer you get to it.
Set the ideal temperature for you and your passenger
With Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control you can select the temperatures you and your passenger each prefer and the system maintains it with advanced air conditioning.
Ford Easy-Fuel, for foolproof filling-up
This useful technology makes it almost impossible to put the wrong fuel in your vehicle, because the wrong nozzle simply won’t fit. Even better, as Ford Easy-Fuel is a capless system, you’ll never have to handle a dirty fuel cap again.
Wipers that automatically adjust to the rain
Rain-sensing wipers spring into action when they detect moisture on your windscreen, then adjust their speed to deal with whatever the weather throws at you. You can even choose from several sensitivity levels that determine how much moisture can build up before the wipers activate.
Headlights that turn on automatically when needed
Automatic headlights use a sensor that detects failing light at dusk, or when there’s a sudden change in light conditions. This triggers the automatic headlights to turn themselves on, which can make driving both easier and safer.
Designed and engineered to work with the vehicle’s selectable 4WD system, a range of uprated engines deliver performance and efficiency, power and refinement.
More powerful, more economical diesel engines
The 2.2L TDCi Duratorq diesel engine has proved its performance, strength and dependability in the field and has now been enhanced, offering additional power and economy.
A 2.2L TDCi Duratorq 130PS and 330 Nm of torque is available only on the 4x2 Regular Cab XL.
The 2.2L TDCi Duratorq generates an impressive 160 PS and 385 Nm of torque. Available in 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions (Selected models only).
Need even more power? Then take the 3.2L TDCi Duratorq diesel option, with 200PS and 470 Nm of torque at your command.
Impressive fuel economy and low emissions are delivered from 43.5 mpg (6.5L/100m) and 171 g/km CO2 emissions (160PS 4x4 with 6-speed manual and 3.15 FDR).
The Ford Ranger offers a choice of axles for the manual 160PS 2.2 engine. This allows you to prioritise between fuel economy (3.15 Axle ratio) or towing capability (3.55 Axle ratio).
Manual or automatic transmission
There are two different transmissions. A 6-speed manual gearbox that delivers accurate gear-changes and a smooth 6-speed automatic with carefully tuned shifting points.
Use less fuel with Auto-Start-Stop
When you stop at traffic lights or your vehicle is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine (while still supplying power to essentials like the headlights, air-conditioning, radio and the Ford SYNC system). When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or press the accelerator on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto-Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10% (urban cycle).
An additive that removes pollution
A selective catalytic reduction system uses AdBlue®, a urea/water-based fluid to convert NOx emissions in the exhaust gas into nitrogen and water. A particulate filter then reduces more than 99% of emitted solid particulates from the vehicle’s exhaust. To operate correctly, the AdBlue® tank of your Ford EcoBlue diesel engine must be filled with AdBlue® fluid. System warnings illuminate when fluid level becomes too low.
Safety and Security
Ranger’s reinforced safety cell comes with the reassuring protection of standard driver and passenger airbags, side and curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag. A sophisticated Electronic Stability Control system helps you keep control. A state-of-the-art alarm system exists to protect your vehicle from theft.
Keeping your trailer safely in line
Trailer Sway Control detects ‘snaking’ or trailer sway and reduces your vehicle’s speed to help solve the problem, making towing more controlled. The system slows the vehicle down by reducing the engine’s torque and gradually increasing the brake pressure on all wheels.
Stay in control whatever the conditions
Electronic Stability Control constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses when a vehicle is losing grip and automatically applies a braking pulse to individual wheels, stabilising it. Using advanced sensors from the anti-lock braking and Traction Control System it monitors the behaviour of the vehicle.
Continuous protection against rolling over
Ford’s unique roll-rate sensor helps the Roll Stability Control system to keep the tyres grounded, specifically under conditions where there’s a high centre of gravity and when driving through off-camber turns.
Coordinated safety systems activate in a split-second
As well as an ultra rigid safety cell and full complement of standard airbags, Ranger’s Intelligent Protection System (IPS) also includes seat belt pre-tensioners and a collapsible steering column and pedals to reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident.
As proof of its ability to protect you and your passengers, this vehicle has been awarded a 5-star rating by Euro NCAP.
An early warning if a tyre is going flat
If any of your tyres starts to lose pressure during your journey, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System warns you immediately if there’s a puncture by lighting up an icon on the instrument panel.
To ensure that you get a vehicle you can rely on, the Ranger’s been ruthlessly tested in some of the most hostile environments, under extreme temperatures, and across the harshest terrain on earth. Designed and purpose built to handle every task and challenge you set it, this pickup is the real deal.
Impressive towing capability
With a gross payload of over 1 tonne, and 3,500kg towing capability, you can take on the biggest tasks and challenges and carry and tow the biggest, bulkiest loads too.
Wades right in
The Ranger goes where lesser vehicles may fear to tread. In fact, with a wading depth of 800mm it will prove itself both on dry land and through water.
An Off-Road Pack includes engine, transfer case and fuel tank protection to reduce the risk of damage when driving on uneven ground. The pack also includes an electronic locking rear differential to provide increased traction. (Option.)
Lockable roller shutter secures and protects cargo
Available on Super and Double cab models, as an optional extra, this feature provides extra security for cargo in the pickup bed. It can be locked in three different positions, is water resistant and is sturdy enough to withstand another half-tonne load on top of it.
